Ekiti State Agog As Philanthropist, Hon. Bode Agbeleye Clocks the Golden Age

The whole of Ekiti State is celebrating today, the golden age of a man who has touched many lives both in his private capacity and as a generous politician . A Journalist, administrator and politician, Hon. Bode Agbeleye hails from Ekunpa Compound of Ebi Petu of  Ejiyan Clan in Ipoti-Ekiti.

He started his elementary education at the Ebenezer Baptist Primary School Ipoti- Ekiti , he was later selected as the Mail boy for the school. He proceeded to Ipoti High School in September 1980, and graduated in July 1985. He enrolled for his Higher School Certificate (HSC) at the College of Advanced Studies Ondo now Awosika College. He thereafter proceeded to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife where he bagged combined honours in History and Political Science in 1994.

Hon. Agbeleye trained as a journalist at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) where he obtained a postgraduate diploma. He later went back to Obafemi Awolowo University for a Masters Degree in International Relations.

Agbeleye had a brief stint with Avon Crown Caps, Ota, in Ogun State, before starting a career in journalism. He worked with Muyiwa Adetibas Today’s News Today (TNT) a popular evening tabloid in Lagos where he graciously dominated the front page for a period with his exclusives and later joined Legend Weekly published by Fola Arogundade an award winning veteran journalist. He was with Comet Newspaper but left to join active politics.

On joining politics, he quickly became the Secretary of Alliance for Democracy in Ward K in Ifako Ijaye Local Government of Lagos State. He was also the secretary of BATCO Mandate, a caucus within the Alliance for Democracy under the leadership of Alhaji Hassan Ajeigbe aka Amje.

Hon. Agbeleye entered the stormy waters of Ekiti politics in 2004 during the hey days of Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose as the Governor; he pitched his tent with the Alliance for Democracy and he became the Personal Assistant to Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade who was then aspiring for the governorship position in Ekiti State, he thereafter defected to the Peoples Democratic Party with his boss late in  2006 and he was made the caretaker Chairman of Ijero Local Government in June 2007.

While serving as the Chairman in Ijero, Agbeleye became the Public Relations Officer of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Ekiti State chapter. He also bagged the best chairman Award in 2008 in an assessment conducted by the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State in conjunction with Great Minds. He remains the only Local government chairman in Ijero who handed over peacefully and was hosted to a colourful reception by his people with a Chieftiancy title of Atona Olupoti on the very day he left the local government secretariat as the chairman. He was also recalled after a month by the staffers and management of Ijero Local Government and was hosted to a grand reception where all sorts of gifts were showered on him.

Hon. Agbeleye left PDP in a major realignment of forces that he thought was the best decision through which he could serve his people better no wonder, hundreds of his supporters followed suit.

Today, Agbeleye is one of the prominent  leaders of the All Progressive Congress  in Ijero Local Government and he was a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ekiti State on Political Matters.

Hon. Agbeleye is a community development enthusiast and that explains why he was the Secretary of Altruism Club of Ipoti, Secretary of Egbe Omo Ipoti in Lagos for four years, member of I-Team, a community political interest group and currently the Chairman School Based Management Committee of Ipoti High School and Publicity Director of Ipoti High School old Students’ Association. Hon. Agbeleye, a one time public Relations Officer of Ipoti National Students’ Union and PRO of Federation of Ijero Students’ Union is a patron to some students organisations across the local government.

Hon. Agbeleye is a co-director of Rootserve Media Limited, an outfit that showcases expertise not only in public and media relations but also a respected name in publishing and advertising circles. This journalist cum politician is a humanist, Philanthropist, tireless worker, dutiful father, loving husband and an avowed apostle of the downtrodden. He is the Otunba Gbobaniyi of Ido-  Ile and  by His grace the Bobaseto of Ikoro kingdom. Hon. Agbeleye is married with children.
